THE ROLE
The People Relations Advisor plays a key role in building a positive, compliant, and engaged workplace at JD Sports. Partnering with managers and employees, you’ll provide expert advice on employee relations, performance, wellbeing, and compliance with policies and legislation.
You’ll coach leaders, support investigations, and deliver training while driving initiatives that strengthen culture and employee experience.
This role suits someone people-focused, proactive, and detail-oriented, with a passion for fostering strong workplace relationships.
Reporting into the People Relations & Wellbeing Manager, this role is responsible for, but not limited to:
People - General
- Maintain library of policies, procedures, training documentation, registers, and files
- Assist in the development and implementation of People policies, procedures and initiatives
- Drive the performance review process and tracking/reporting for all region/s
- Provide support to the People team with projects and initiatives
- Partner with the relevant stakeholders to provide proactive support and coaching managers on maximising performance in their teams
- Partner closely with stakeholders to identify challenges and deliver practical, timely solutions to support business outcomes
- Ensure store visits happen at least fortnightly and that coaching and training is provided to managers
- Monitor and respond to queries in the People Advice inbox within 24 hours of receipt
- Adhere to all company standards, policies and procedures
- Carry out the duties, in accordance with the terms and conditions of employment
Employee Relations
- Act as the first point of contact for complaints, grievances, and performance related issues
- Run internal investigations including holding interviews, writing reports with findings and providing recommendations
- Manage the disciplinary process in conjunction with managers and ensure fair and consistent outcomes across the company
- Provide accurate and timely advice to both managers and employees on People related matters referring to legislation, policies, procedures, contracts, or Awards where appropriate
- Issue any related documentation in a timely manner
- Manage reporting and employee records
- Develop and conduct regular training sessions on ER topics as identified
- Manage and continuously develop the modern performance management framework and launch to the business with continuous training
- Assist the People team on matters when required
Remuneration & Benefits
- Assist with the fairness testing for retail team members
- Ensure any salary/Award documentation is updated and sent to the relevant stakeholders
- Assist with retail bonus schemes and preparation of schedules and letters quarterly
- Continuously look for new benefits to add to our employee benefits packages and provide recommendations
- Manage communication strategies for benefits
Award Interpretation
- Provide expert interpretation and advice of Awards covering the company’s team members
- Monitors changes and communicates and implements to ensure not to leave the company with any exposure
- Develops cheat sheets for managers on main pain points for Awards
People Health, Safety & Wellbeing
- Work with the outsourced WHS company on store risk audit results and assist in closing the gaps in conjunction with store managers
- Champion mental health by owning, designing and rolling out wellness initiatives
- Manage EAP relationships
- Exercise a duty of care and due diligence at all times
- Ensure compliance with WHS Policies and Procedures
- Be responsible for complying with all legislative requirements of the company’s Safety System & Strategy and being aware of updates to information, policies or legislation
- Identify hazards & risks within the workplace and either fix, remove or report
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR?
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in Human Resources
- Demonstrated experience managing employee relations issues and providing advice on performance management
- Demonstrated experience providing advice to managers and employees
- Experience interpreting the General Retail & Storage Services Award
- Experience working with NZ employment laws
- Previous experience within a retail environment
- Previous experience in a medium-large organisation
- Ability to manage multiple tasks, adapt to pressure and effectively prioritise in a fast-paced environment with competing demands
- Previous experience designing and delivering training both face to face and online (desired)
